This Cookie Policy explains how Chipon Alert (operated by Jyv Tech LLC and its Nigerian subsidiary Tanta Innovative Limited) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our web version and how we handle local storage on our mobile apps (iOS and Android).
Jurisdiction: This policy complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where applicable.

4. Mobile App Local Storage & Similar Technologies
Since Chipon Alert is primarily a mobile app (iOS and Android), we do not rely on traditional cookies. Instead, we use the following local storage mechanisms:
4.1 MMKV (React Native Mobile Storage)
What it is: A fast, key-value storage library for React Native apps. It stores data locally on your device.
What we store:
- Your authentication token (session-based, cleared on logout)
- Map state (last viewed region, zoom level)
- Search history (recent location and route searches)
- Filter preferences (incident categories you follow)
- Notification settings and user preferences
- Offline cache for safety heatmap data and recent incidents
Duration: Until you clear app data or uninstall the app.
NDPR/GDPR Compliance: MMKV data is stored only on your device. We do not transmit MMKV data to our servers unless you explicitly sync or report information.
4.2 Push Notification Tokens
What it is: A unique identifier issued by Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) or Apple Push Notification (APN) service.
Why we store it: To send you real-time safety alerts and incident notifications based on your preferences.
Stored in: Our backend database (Firebase Realtime Database or similar) and linked to your user account.
Duration: Until you disable notifications or uninstall the app.
Your control: You can disable notifications anytime in app Settings → Notification Preferences.
4.3 Device Identifiers
What we collect:
- Advertising ID (GAID on Android, IDFA on iOS) — Only if you allow analytics and advertising
- Device OS & Version — For debugging and compatibility
- App Version — For analytics
NDPR/GDPR Compliance: You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of targeted ads in your device settings (Android Settings > Google > Manage Your Google Account > Data & Privacy; iOS Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising).
5. Third-Party Cookies & Services
5.1 Google Maps
Chipon Alert uses Google Maps to display our safety heatmap and route planning features.
Cookies Set by Google Maps:

Your Control: You can manage Google's data collection via Google's privacy settings.
5.2 Firebase Services
We use Firebase (owned by Google) for:
- Cloud Messaging (push notifications)
- Analytics (optional, for understanding user behavior)
- Realtime Database (storing your user account and preferences)
- Remote Config (feature flags and A/B testing)
Cookies & Identifiers: Firebase sets first-party cookies and uses device identifiers.

5.3 AWS (if used for infrastructure)
If we store backup data on AWS S3 (incident photos), AWS may set cookies for authentication and session management.

6. Sensitive Data: What We Do NOT Store in Cookies or Local Storage
- Bank account or financial information
- Medical records
- Government ID numbers
- Passwords (we use phone + OTP authentication)
- Full-precision location history (only current session location)
- Biometric data
7. Managing Your Cookies & Local Storage
7.1 Web Version
In Your Browser:
- Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge: Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data > Cookies and Cached Images
- Most browsers allow you to block cookies by default or allow only certain sites
On Chipon Alert:
- Visit Settings > Privacy > Cookie Preferences
- Toggle essential, functional, and analytics cookies
- Click "Save Preferences"
7.2 Mobile App (iOS)
To clear app data:
- Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- Find "Chipon Alert"
- Tap "Offload App" or "Delete App"
To opt out of Apple Advertising ID tracking:
- Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising
- Toggle "Personalized Ads" off
7.3 Mobile App (Android)
To clear app data:
- Settings > Apps > Chipon Alert > Storage
- Tap "Clear Cache" or "Clear Storage"
To opt out of Google Advertising ID (GAID):
- Settings > Google > Manage Your Google Account > Data & Privacy
- Tap "Ad Settings"
- Toggle "Personalization" off
8. Your Rights Under NDPR & GDPR
8.1 In Nigeria (Under NDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access — Request what personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — Correct inaccurate data
- Erasure — Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Data Portability — Receive your data in a portable format
- Object — Refuse certain types of data processing (e.g., analytics)

9. Cookies & Children
Chipon Alert is designed for users aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect cookies from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided information to us, please contact us immediately.
In the US (COPPA): We do not target children under 13 and comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.
10. International Data Transfers
Chipon Alert is operated by:

Your data may be transferred internationally to:
- Cloud providers (AWS, Railway, Fly.io, Neon, Upstash)
- Analytics services (Google)
- CDN providers
NDPR & GDPR Compliance: We use Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and adequacy findings to ensure adequate protection.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or applicable laws. We will notify you of material changes by:
- Posting the updated policy on our website with the "Last Updated" date
- Sending an in-app notification
